My first thought was Roger Shea but I think not.

  Age Related Number? DS ----
Posted by: David Aylmore - 06-04-2023, 09:31 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

I am trying to help someone who has inherited a 1928 Chummy which looks as if it was re-registered in 1995. The letter Pre-fix on the plate is DS followed by 4 numbers. Can anyone confirm my thoughts that this is likely to be an Age Related number rather than the original?
Many thanks
David - Devon A7 Club.

  Original - or an modification?
Posted by: Tony Griffiths - 05-04-2023, 10:45 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (25)

From a Facebook post, a mid-1930 Chummy - but with bonnet sides with louvres. I've never seen one like that before - probably an owner's modification?

A lovely gift - whitworth tools
Posted by: jpsmit - 05-04-2023, 02:12 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

Was out and about today, one stop of which was stopping at the home of a friend from my club. He used to own a Roller Silver Dawn which he sold last year. Long story short he gave me a set of Whitworth tools which will come in handy for the Austin 7. More to the point my friend had received them from a friend and co-worker. A model maker and machinist originally from Devon. Lovely to receive the gift and even lovlier to know it will be cherished for the third generation.

  Peugeot Quadrilette

Much has been written as to how the Quadrilette may have influenced Austin when designing the Seven.
Take a look at the eBay listing 185833221045 which shows a good selection of photos of a rolling chassis and decide for yourself.

  Pressure relief ball
Posted by: Steve kay - 03-04-2023, 06:20 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (67)

This may be a silly question to which there will be dozens of "dead easy, just..." but having lifted engine to get access to oil pressure relief valve, removed cover and spring, I am now wondering how to extract the ball. Sticking a magnet over the end of the hole/cylindrical tube into the crankcase has not worked. Is there a quick and easy traditional method, or must the oil pump be taken apart to allow the ball to be pushed out from inside the pump?

  Cut out
Posted by: morrisminor - 03-04-2023, 01:21 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (14)

I've just had my dynamo rebuilt because it was squeaking, the ignition light was staying on and the ammeter was showing discharge . Put it all back together,  still the same.  The cut out points are open when the car is off, when I start it they stay open.  I've read somewhere that the points can be adjusted ?
Any suggestions from you knowledgeable people ?
Thanks all, any ideas please explain in simple terms !!

  Mechanical tachometer
Posted by: colina - 03-04-2023, 11:53 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (2)

Hi all,
Has anyone had any recent experience of the ebay 'made in India' repro smith's tachos (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192886058838)?
I see that these were mentioned in posts a few years ago and no one seemed to say they were a disaster. I'm happy to accept that they are unlikely to be perfect (and also happy to wait for shipping).
thanks
Colin
