  Ideal mini-caravan for Seveners?
Posted by: Reckless Rat - 02-06-2023, 10:46 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Browsing on t'internet this morning, I came across this tiny French made caravan called a "MyTwalee". It has an all up weight of 520kg so probably could be towed behind a Seven. Certainly looks like an interesting concept.

No idea if it's going to be sold in the UK, but I thought I'd post the link in case anyone is interested.

  water temperature sender
Posted by: squeak - 02-06-2023, 08:11 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (7)

I have a 6v temperature gauge in fahrenheight which the needle moves the full distance left to right in its base slot as the engine heats up.
I'm hoping there is a resistor I can place in the sender wire to calm the results down to say half . At full scale the engine does not appear to be boiling.  There is obviously a miss match here, how are senders rated?
At my recent front welch plug catastrophy I had no warning the gauge was already at full scale!  thanks russell

Friends' Gallery Picture of the Month - June 2023

The showrooms of Imperial Motors, located on Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, submitted by Douglas Alderson. The decorations suggest this was taken around May 1937, the celebrations being for King George VI's coronation.

positive charge disappears when I accelerate
Posted by: richard tatton - 31-05-2023, 06:07 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (5)

Hi I'm finding that I have a positive reading on my ammeter when I'm on a tickover but if I accelerate, however fast, my charge disappears to zero. Does this just mean that the cutout is doing its job or is there possibly a problem with the dynamo or the cutout? The ammeter works in that it shows a big discharge when I use lights, indicators etc. Any suggestions please? Richard

  The ‘Welsh’ 53 years ago!
Posted by: Howard Wright - 31-05-2023, 08:48 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (12)

Hi All

With our South Wales Rally coming up on the 10th and 11th June I had a trawl back through Grey Mags to find the earliest write up. 1970!!

Are the names in this the ‘usual suspects’ that post on here??

Cheers

Howard

  And another starter query!
Posted by: Nick Lettington - 30-05-2023, 04:04 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (1)

I have a late high frame rubber mounted engine sitting on a test stand on my garage floor. As there were a number of interesting mistakes in the assembly of the engine, I removed the starter motor to check to see if that had also been bodged. It looks like it should.

Connecting it to a battery, it whizzes merrily and throws the starter cog forward. The Bendix spring is not tight, the teeth are crisp.

On the engine it makes noise but doesn't spin the engine... It is hard to know if it is engaging with the flywheel... what should I be looking to check?

  Battered batteries?
Posted by: IanClayton - 30-05-2023, 02:46 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (8)

I thought I'd heard of everything Austin 7 until up in the North of this Island at the Argory meeting of the  Ulster pre-war Austin Club and Irish Austin Seven Club last weekend I was introduced to the use of sawn down 12 Volt batteries in Sevens.  The example I saw, it was explained, had two cells physically sawn off the 12 volt casing, retaining the internal connection to the batteries terminal post resulting in an 8 volt version upon which the Seven apparently runs well without further mods.   My informant was surprised I hadn't heard of this as it's apparently often used in the Irish Republic but I've not ever come across it in my wanderings in GB before.

Any comments ?

Does anyone have an 1 1/8" Phoenix surplus to requirments please? I know David C lists them, but I cant really justify the current list price. If anyone has one previously purchased for a project that is no longer going ahead, I would be interested...

Contact me by PM...

cheers..

Any forum members with knowledge of 1930's motorbikes?
Posted by: Jeff Taylor - 30-05-2023, 01:01 AM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

Hi everyone,

I've been asked to identify the make of bike in this period photo. Clearly it's an inclined OHV single cylinder with twin exhaust ports and a polished inclined fuel tank. The registration shows that it was first registered in Liverpool in August 1934.

  Updraught Zenith FZ /FZB jets.
Posted by: Ray White - 29-05-2023, 02:50 PM - Forum: Forum chat... - Replies (6)

I am switching from a Mazak FZB to a bronze FZ  carburettor and I have noticed there are two different size jets.

The FZB main is 70 and the slow running 75.

The FZ   main is 75 and the slow running 70.

Could someone please advise me which is correct?

Thanks,

Ray.
