What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Hi All

After Dudley, Eunice and Franklin I assumed that the roads would be clear of salt and with the prospect of a fine afternoon we ventured up to the Elan Valley.  Didn’t bank on how strong the wind still was! Nearly lost my hat!

Cheers

Howard

Finally subdued the pull & spin wiper motor into submission, the on off switch had been visited by someone who didn't understand it whilst bits of the contact breaker were missing and corroded so I equipped it with a suitably rated micro switch and it runs really fast.

More details, David, please! Switch type, source and how you did the job would be greatly appreciated.

The contact breaker fixed contact had corroded through and was useless, so it was removed in it's entirety by removing it's mounting rivets. A 26 mm x 8 mm x 1 mm steel plate was secured to the paxolin base plate with two countersunk 8 BA inserted from underneath into tapped holes in the steel plate passing through the now redundant rivet holes. The micro switch is one I had in stock and rated at 5 amps at 250 volts, and every time I'm in the workshop the motor is run to see if the switch will stand up to it's new use, running free with no wiper it pulls 0.75 amps. There are 4 options for mounting the switch which is held to the steel plate by two 8 BA screws into tapped holes in the plate. Only one option works where the switch terminals are clear of everything, you can see a couple of tapped holes in the plate which didn't work. I have visited the RS components website and found a few potential switches which would do, more to follow when this mod is proven.

Thanks, Dave - and well done in sorting it out.

Tried a Ruby emergency stop. Driving cheerfully along, I suddenly found myself accompanied by a wasp, lurching about somewhat. An expert will tell us whether they hibernate or are meant to die, but this one was unsure whether to attack the windscreen or the driver. The car stopped in significantly less than the length of a cricket pitch, and the wasp was ushered out into a February morning.
