Chummy carburettor problems |

I am helping someone sell her late father's 28 Chummy. The car was running fine about 6 weeks ago (admittedly in milder weather) but when I tried to start it yesterday it started ok but would only keep running with prolonged use of the choke It has a bronze Zenith carburettor. Even when warm the engine always wants to die if revs are allowed to drop below c 1500 and has to be caught by using the choke . I have had the two jets out which were not blocked and I have checked for obvious air leaks.
What have I missed - it must be something simple given that it was going well so recently. and has not been touched.
Thanks in advance - Andrew

Maps to GPX |

Until recently it was possible to plot a detailed route using Google Maps on a desktop computer, then convert the route into a .gpx file which could be uploaded to a satnav.
This was an incredibly useful tool for holiday planning which enabled you to choose "A7 friendly" roads and have the satnav navigate you along them - rather than being stuck with the stock "fastest route" or "avoid motorways" settings most satnavs offer.
I now find the "Google Maps to .gpx" conversion tools no longer work, which I gather is due to sweeping changes in the functionality of Google Maps.
Does anyone know of a simple workaround for this issue? Or similar workflow alternative?
I really don't want to buy a new device, or to even attempt route planning on a mobile 'phone.
I'm aware that it's theoretically possible to plan in my satnav's (TomTom) supporting software, but in practice I find it very clumsy compared with Google Maps.
I want "Maps to .gpx" back!!!

Halfshaft Steel |

I’m sure that I’ve seen a note of what steel Austin originally used for halfshafts, but I can’t find it.
New ones are EN36B but does anyone know what the original ones were made from?
Many thanks
Charles

Latest EU nonsense (GPSR) |

The EU is introducing a new measure called the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) which will come into effect next Friday (13th). I won't bore you with the details (you can easily look them up online) but the effect is that we will no longer be able to supply anything to customers in any EU country AND in Northern Ireland. Yes, I know NI is still part of the UK, but because of the Northern Ireland protocol they get hit by it as well.
There is a BBC article about it here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9wrz57gkvwo
This measure also applies to companies within the EU so in this case we are benefitting from Brexit, otherwise we would either be out of business or have to massively increase our prices to pay for the extra bureaucracy and paperwork.
A sad time, especially for our A7 friends in the EU and Northern Ireland.

Ruby Spare Wheel Bracket |

Hello Friends
I'm wondering if anyone here has a good version of the bracket to hold the spare wheel in on the Mk2 Ruby? The one I have, is a shaped plate with a bolt through . the condition would certainly damage the newly coated wheel , so before I line it with felt etc, i was wondering if it even was the right thing.
I will upload a picture shortly.

"Ermintrude" my 1935 ARQ Ruby that I have owned for 34 years or nearly 50% of my life is now up for sale.
Currently in 'rolling resto', ( ie drivable condition ) I,m looking for a sympathetic new owner to really use and enjoy as much as I and my family have. Having run out of time, money & space +
a house move, a 'new toy', and lifestyle change have prompted the sale of this great little car. Regular at Kophill Hillclimb, Silverstone, Brooklands Beaulieu, etc; well known Knighted previous owner !!!!
Offers around £4.500 ish, as just had full engine rebuild,( still needs running in ) new tyres, lots of nice bits fitted, just pm for more details, delivery can be arranged as I have my own trailer.
