I agree about doors - of which of course the Speedy does have two.

Long gone are the days when I could jump in, slide down behind the wheel, and start the engine before pulling away at what seemed like enormous speed.... It felt very good!

If I were looking for a good sporting Austin to drive around in, I would certainly consider buying it - what a superb re-creation it looks like. Plus the fact that it comes with a spare Speedy engine.

Sad to hear that.
Given that we’re told that this car has a genuine Speedy type sports chassis and a genuine Speedy type pressure fed engine it’s much more authentic than many, including Ulster reps that may aspire to the same price range.
I’m tempted but space and my ambition of domestic bliss get in the way

As the builder/owner of the subject of this thread about which so many flattering comments have been made I am slightly reticent about making a contribution!

However I would like to make it clear that it’s creation would not have been possible without the generous contribution made by a few of the real Speedy owners who generously allowed me access to their cars and loaned me parts to copy and the skill of those specialists who did the things I was not clever enough to do.

At Moreton in the Marsh it was parked next to Peter’s Le Mans car and the other real ones and apart from the give away of the starting handle it was hard to identify it as a replica.

The only reason it and the van are being offered for sale is because my increasingly geriatric body is no longer compatible with either of them !

Ken,

I can remember your beautiful re-creation parked next to the Le Mans car.

It is certainly most impressive in every respect - my brother Jonathan also remembers it as being the start of a grudging respect for an Austin 7 to the extent that he is now vaguely looking at buying himself an early Chummy.
He promptly started to point out everything which as not "correct" on the Le Mans car.....

Can I just say how much I admired the amount and quality of the work you have clearly put in to the car? It really is superb. Results speak louder than intentions, and your results shout out commitment, dedication, and fun!

Sorry you are not able to enjoy her any more.

As ever,

Peter
