What have you done today with your Austin Seven
That car looks fabulous! So 7 people minus three... makes 4 cars still to find?
Or does one have to carry a related bouncer at all times?

There appears to be a steel rod behind the seats, what’s that?

I figured it was either holding the body together or propping the seats up!

What's the thing sticking out of the dash next to the glove box? Map light perhaps?

The steel rod passes right through and has shaped plates externally both sides.

The sticking out thing is indeed a dash lamp.

I'd love to take that one on!

Take it on what exactly, Duncan - a trip to Beaulieu, a local trial, a school trip or on an outing next year to Moreton-in-Marsh...?

Incredibly the door straps seem intact. Did not survive here in windy Wellington. Not one of Austin's greater tech achievements.

Is that the correct way to mount the straps? i.e. turned back on themselves at the door end? (Hard to get a screwdriver in I'd have thought...)

Yes, I think that correct. You mount the door end first..

Yes, that is definitely the correct way to fit the check straps; this is an earlier car, but you can see how the strap folds when the door is closed:

Good to know - thanks both.

Happily, the front floor looks entirely original - nobody has been hacking it about to get engine and box out together.
