What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Had a run out with a mate of mine to show him the "Chemin Saint Julien" in Alès. It's still as steep as it was the last time I went up it. Car did it two-up no bother and I even managed to change up to 2nd near the top... stopped off at the top, a viewpoint called "l'Hermitage" for a photo op:

Some weeks ago my wife joined a volunteer scheme to offer respite care for elderly folk in the community. She was assigned a gentleman with advanced Alzheimer's whose wife was finding his constant care exhausting.

As she got to know the couple Grace found out that he used to have a large collection of vintage cars when they lived on one of the Scottish islands. He apparently had no memory at all of the island or of the cars, or indeed of anything else. Conversation with him is repetitive as he can't remember what he has just said. He cannot remember how to eat or put his shoes on.

Yesterday Grace took our special round and parked it in their drive. As soon as he saw it his face lit up and he told Grace it was an Austin Seven. He went on to say that he had had three Sevens of his own including one special very much like ours! He walked around it running his hands all over it and recalling his own cars. When asked about his other cars he said he couldn't remember any others, only the Austins.

One very happy couple, at least for a few minutes.

Peter.

Lovely story Peter, which island is he from?

I think either Lewis or Harris. We have one or two mutual friends it seems.

Cool! I think I can guess which ones!

Love the story Peter.

When I read vintage car owner, and Scottish island, I immediately thought of Keith Schellenberg. He was famous (in my World), for owning the Barnato Hassen Bentley), and 'owner' of the Isle of Eigg.
Unfortunately he is no longer with us, but googling him revealed that he was a multiple winter Olympian on the bob sleigh tracks.

I want to a friend's gathering at the Squinting Cat, Steam, tractors, bikes and cars. Andrew Ruby was there with his very tidy Ruby and an A40 Cambridge. There were also there two, Beauty and the Beast, you decide which is which
