A few bits and bobs today on the Cambridge project. Front uprights cleaned up and in primer, gear change remote lacquered, currently tidying up the front spring plates - just letting then cool down as they get hot white quickly on the linisher!
Struggling with enthusiasm and energy today, my get up and go has stayed in bed with the blankets pulled over its head!

I took the rad out of the Type 65 to assess its leaks, one split in the base of the header tank, A split in the core top right where the top of the rad has not had its corner braces fitted.
I went to my central stores depot and got out two box saloon rads, one has been recored and never used but the neck has lost the top part.
The other one still has an original core fitted but the neck has come unsoldered and it has a couple dents and it has been leaking from the bottom and has been bodged in the past.
I am hoping the genuine core can be shortened at the base to fit the rad shell and have the neck re soldered.

Next week I will be visiting the radiator repair man with three radiators to see which will be best to modify / repair to fit the Type 65 shell.
The radiator repair man is operating a locked door policy and will only open the door by appointment with correct distancing.
I am lucky that he is only 300 yards from my route home from work and as I finish work at 3 pm its no problem to visit his premises.
I am considered an essential employee in the private sector so I am working as normal.
I have a four blade fan to fit while the radiator is out as well.
I must go shopping for some 7up

Making a set of front axle drop links as in Chris Gould's book. Cut out and bent the 4 pieces of 1/4" steel plate yesterday, marked out and drilled the 3/4" holes today (That produced a significant amount of swarf!!) Tomorrow's plan is to trim/cut the ends to the round profile. Last will be to make the spacers by boring two 1" lengths of 1" dia bar 3/4" to make the spacers.

It is quite a bit trickier than the Austin - the Seven will cross almost any sort of ground, the Rocket is sensitive to gradients and bumps.

Completed installation of the engine in my car which was removed to replace the rear main bearing oil seal. Then took it shopping and can report that the oil leak is no more.

Hi Steve

I did this last week.  Only I’ve incorporated a fixed shackle plate in mine.  I used 1” tube thick walled tube (3/4” inner diameter) rather than boring out solid bar for the spacer.  I also had a propane burner AND portapak gas welder to get the steel soft enough to bend the kink!

I've got no thick wall tube in stock but I have got 1" bar so for two 1" lengths, the choice was obvious. Oxy - Acetylene for me. With a No. 5 nozzle, it heated the plate up pretty quickly and it bent easily with a set of Stillsons on the free end.

Have you found a good source for the 3/4" diameter bolt, Howard? I can find some in UNC that would suffice but they're not, exactly cheap! 3/4" Whit or BSF would be great but are proving difficult to find.

Hi Steve last one I did I used 3/4 UNF as that was all that was available but can't remember where I got them, there are some online but you might have to die the thread down as they are 3" they don't seem to do shorter ones. Terry.
