What have you done today with your Austin Seven
I think its a Panda, Bob.
So what would have caused that originally - levering from a corner?
The rust in the break/seam looks quite long standing.

Yep, I wouldn’t feel too guilty Hedd, it was on its way long before you got to it.

Yes I concluded that too. I'll see if I have a decent H/C head for it.

Bob, its some of the oil barons finest grease. Turns out its blue. Oh, yes and a panda.

Also dug out one of the early dizzys for the chummy (which has a 009 on it presently) so I can work out what is needed to install later this winter. What kind of end do I need for the leads?

Hi RR

Spokes usually break at some stress area. One cause is exposure to acid as in anti rust concoctions.

Hi Hedd

That looks like a DS4 which takes push in connectors.  You’ll have to be prepared for the fact that points, condensers are obsolete. (Parazine gave a good description of hiding a modern condenser in the shell of the old on his R type refurbishment thread). There are also threads describing dizzy caps and rotor arms that can be made to fit, from memory a Ford Y type cap and a Vauxhall Viva (1960s) rotor??

I have seen the base plate modified to take a later DK4A points set.

Cheers

I have 4 complete assemblies Howard, 2 of which appear rebuilt (that one isn't), with a decent box of bits. So I'm going for it.

So just the standard push in jobbies like on a Bosch clone?

On another note, found a H/C head and gauze for the spare engine. Splendid.

Don't feel too bad that corner has been cracked for quite a while from the rust staining.

Just my own opinion Hedd, but as this engine isn’t for your GE, I would go for an lc head, it makes for a much sweeter engine and not half as harsh as as one fitted with an hc head...but then again, you may be planning to race old bluey for all I know!

I’ll get me coat...
