What have you done today with your Austin Seven
Went to my lock-up garage, to do some work on my Nippy. Opened the door looked inside, cold gloomy and, miserable, so I closed the door went home.

Oh dear RPM that's very sad! I went into my garage last night and was fed up with looking at building drawings in my "office".So I spent a happy hour trying to smarten up the A7. Felt much better after.

I recently moved to a property with a great garage .
Not the biggest in size but very well insulted and heated.
Plenty big enough for A7 work.

When I moved here the first arrival was the A7

I have been trying to get my grey saloon back on the road. Some 10 years ago I put nobbys on it as the rear springs were not really up to the job of 2 adults, a child and a luggage rack. A year or so ago they finally popped up through the floor.

I have been working my way through the floor, taking off the luggage rack and refitting a number plate bar, while also fitting some LED lightboards. I have now bought some of Ians springs, and while I've had a few spare hours I've had the axle off and the springs out.

I've got some painting to do while I wait for a small 7 workshop order - tab washers and spring pin cotters, plus some damper rubbers etc. And it'll be back together by next weekend I hope.

One thing was very apparent to me, if you build a chassis properly. Use anti sieze (I use graphite flake mixed with steam oil), then paint well. It all comes apart very easily. Friday lunchtime I put the car on stands, and undid the propshaft and torque tube mount, all in about 35 mins. Friday evening in 15 mins I had the dampers off the spring pins, the cotters out, the spring pins out. The brake cables off and the axle on the floor.  An hour this morning had the old springs on the floor. I'd have done it in half the time if I had a 2 post lift. I built this car 25years ago. It came apart like it was yesterday.

I also gave the axle a good clean. The rest of the chassis is just as good under the waxoyl.

Great pictures well done.

Feeling a bit embarrassed by-the fast progress of Hedd.
Today only managed to find a intermittent fault on the fuse box which has been stopping the rewire
I needed to make some brass bits to overcome the problem.
OK now
Must remember to post some pictures of my progress

Pushed ALH out the garage and cleaned the 5 odd years of dust off her to put back and sheet up for the winter using my cover I won in a competition from RH insurance services. Thanks to Emma Airey and the team

Hedd, we must be a right bunch of hairdressers down here in South Wales. Being the middle of November, most of us have got our clogs out from the cupboard under the stairs, to wear in the workshop.

Not subjecting our cars to the vagaries of winter seems to be the secret to easy underneath maintenance - I stopped doing our winter rally a few years ago and like Hedd I have noticed that maintenance is much easier since I have kept the car dry and away from road salt. I use moly grease and copaslip wherever I can and keep the under body coated in waxoyl ( home made).

The weather here is still fine and dry so I managed a nice run round yesterday in the autumn sunshine, followed by a front brake strip, clean and readjustment.

After being 'out and about' in the RP this week, it looked as if it had been trialling, mostly die to the fact that my house is accessed by a metalled forest track some half a mile long. So, yesterday afternoon, I gave it a good wash and then, yesterday evening gave it a wax polish. It looks well.

Taken this morning.

Pity its (comparatively) pristine condition wont last. It will look as if I hadn't bothered the next time it goes out!

Now I know how Sisyphus must have felt!
