What have you done today with your Austin Seven
It was a calm sunny winter's day in Auckland, so my wife, daughter, dog and I took the ruby to Bastion Point overlooking the harbour.

Three lovely looking A7s doing what they should. I was stuck trying to work out why my RK was running a bit rough and fettling the Special ready for Beaulieu  Smile.

What I did yesterday apart from trying to be a historian and car restorer, was to drive down to Abergavenny, park alongside a big Crossley and a very low Marlin, and make plans for Sunday's Shelsley outing. Returning home I was less than happy to notice that as well as the expected drops of oil, there was a trickle of water. Opening the bonnet revealed a big leak between the header and the core. Over many years I have used Hereford Radiators for obscurities such as a Sunbeam oil bath as well as car parts.  Whilst the same old chap seems to be in charge after they moved from the city centre to Foley Estate, their quality seems to have sadly deteriorated. This rad went to them about fourteen months ago, to leak so badly so soon is not good. Various people have told me to speak immediately to H&L Radiators in Ludlow, so unless there is a chorus of other advise I will ring them this morning. (No, the radiator wasn't squirting upwards, how to correct the picture defeats me. Old French motor cars adopt the correct posture, leaky bits of Ruby lie on their backs, perhaps due to being tired, if not yet emotional.)

Confusing Steve. Mentioning French cars and Ruby in the same sentence makes me think of Le Moteur " Ruby " manufactured by Godefroy & Leveque and fitted to many cyclecars!

Looks like a simple soldering job to fix? Probably even in situ once small area around has been thoroughly cleaned and Bakers fluid used to assist soldering. A good quality large soldering iron to apply lots of heat quickly would probably cost less than a firm doing the job.......then you are ready for the next leak!

I have been busy these last few weeks working out why this is stuck

No huge clues with the head off

nor in the timing gears (which was missing the starter nut)

Turns out it was No4, probably a bit of moisture had stuck a ring. Now turns over, if a smidge tight where it was stuck. To paint or not to paint is the question?

Looks like frost damage. I would clean it up, and Araldite or JB Weld it. The other core plug looks similar.

A trip to the shops. Old original and new looking old - even to the fuel injection disguised as carburettors.

    That looks good Tony but it will be noisier than the electric Seven I had a ride in today. With no engine noise you can hear all the other creaks and groans.
