Distributor End Float |

I took the distributor (DK4A) off to fit a new drive gear bought from Jamie but noticed there is a significant degree of end-float both with the old brass gear and the new steel one.
This is around .048" even though there is a relatively thin Tufnol (?) thrust washer. This washer seems to be OK although it's quite small in diameter so could I simply fit a steel washer between the new gear and the existing thrust washer.
Alternatively I could possibly cut a washer from the boss of the old gear which would then have the correct bore and be the same diameter as the boss of the new gear but without a lathe I'd have to try to do this by hacksawing and filing.
Any advice?
John.

The Austin 7 Clubs' Association have created a new role called Publicity Officer and I have volunteered to get the ball rolling. I introduced myself in the 2024B Grey Magazine.
Essentially we are raising the profile of the clubs within the association and hopefully the membership will grow accordingly. This will keep our clubs and cars going well after we have departed.
To do this we are using YouTube and Facebook as tools to get Austin 7's in front of new people who might otherwise be drawn to a different make or age of car. We will expand to use different media to raise our profile even further over time.
To do this effectively I need a little help. Do you have pictures or short videos that I can use? Maybe a car celebrating its 100th or 90th birthday? An interesting journey or story around a car or family? Even if you are not on social media yourself I can use your material with your permission.
Please contact me via the email address below if you would like to help or ask a question. I will also check this thread from time to time.
Many thanks,
Steven Earl

Hello, I am seeking advice on where to source a (new/used) replacement window for the driver's side door of a 1932 RM box saloon. (On this model there is a small cut way on the lower rear corner to accommodate the shape of the door). Will be at Beaulieu this weekend (JH1191). Thanks.

PWA7C member Ian Burton has drummed up support for an inaugral meeting of this new group which is bound to appeal to A7 owners in Hants and West Sussex.
It will take place at the George Inn at Finchdean, near Waterlooville in Hampshire, postcode is PO8 0AU, on the evening of Tuesday 9th July. 7 for 7.30pm.
All A7 owners (indeed, all pre-war Austin owners) and PWA7C members are most welcome to attend and we shall then find out if there is sufficient interest to establish the group permanently. Chairman Nick Turley, and I will be going along to lend support. Robin Lawton, who many of you will know, is also publicising the meeting, for which we are very grateful.
You don't have to come in an Austin, feel free to arrive in a modern if that is more practical. There is ample parking.
If you'd like more details contact Ian Burton on 07515 456444 or email ianburton@aol.com
