Headlining Fabric - A7 Saloons |

Does anyone have reliable info on what fabric, and in what colour(s), was originally used for A7 saloon headlining?
Up to this point I've been dismissing the tatty remnants in the roof of my RP as "modern" replacement, but upon inspecting fragments from another (reportedly 'untouched') roof they are the same - it's quite a thin fabric, brushed soft only on the face side, with a distinct weave on the reverse, and the colour - with due allowance for grot and fading - is perhaps best described as "cream". It's miles away from the opulent stuff modern trim suppliers offer.
Rummaging through the books and catalogues I have has turned up no info at all - I only found an online resource which says headlinings were "grey", but without citing any source.
Thoughts welcomed... I shall more than likely choose something (a) available and (b) I like - but it's always good to start from a position of knowledge.

SU float level |

I wish to check the fuel level in the jet on my HS2 carb. It has the newer plastic float and Viton needle in the float chamber. I have read various levels recommended, 1/8" to 3/8" and 3-6mm, measured below the jet bridge in the carb.
Does anybody have a definitive figure please?

Clutch question |

Hi folks
I have another question:
Is it possible to adjust the clutch from the outside in some way or is it needed to remove the gearbox?
The clutch on my '30 Chummy started to slip recently, luckily not until I was almost home. The clutch and everything around it is practically new, I suspect that the clutch has settled a bit through use and now needs to be readjusted.
To be more precise, I can say that the free travel until the clutch engages is very short, but the distance from the gripping point to the floor panel is much longer, I think 4 to 5 times longer than above. So I hope to be able to ensure the clutch works with a readjustment without having to take everything apart.
Is that possible? And if so, how do I do it? Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance for your support!
Cheers, Oliver

I have a side draft manifold and Zenith 26VA carburettor in good condition on my 1932 RN which I am trying to make as original as possible.
Would anyone have an updraft inlet and exhaust manifold and a Zenith 22FZ carburettor that they would like to preferably swap or sell?

Ignition puzzle |

Ignition puzzle. Drove my Seven - 1930 with a just-rebuilt 1930-31 distributor with standard points ignition - up to the garage door and switched off. Although running perfectly before and starting easily, it would not re-start - there was no spark at the plugs.
Fitted another just-built and known-to-be-working replacement distributor but, again, no spark produced.
Fitted each of the distributors to another car - and both worked.
Put the original distributor back on.
Changed the coil—no difference.
Checked the earth of each distributor—both OK
Hot wired the coil direct to the battery—no difference
Tester showed that negative lead from coil to distributor was working.
Took HT lead that comes from coil and held it against the block while cranking the engine - sparks OK
So, neither of the distributors that work on one car, won’t on the other.
Any ideas, anyone?

Adjustable Beds - Any Advice |

Hi,
Completely off topic, but my wife has a long term back problem and we are considering buying an electrically adjustable bed as she's in less pain if she can lay back rather than down.
Anyway, these beds are typically the best part of £2,000 so I don't want to simply order one un-seen and most of the bed shops which advertise them don't actually have a display model.
Does anyone have any experience of these and what advice would you give?
Many thanks,
John.

2024 NIGHTJAR RALLY |

Hi All,
This wonderful event takes place on Saturday November 16th. Please save this date.
This year it will be starting in South Oxfordshire (about 5pm) and finishing in West Berkshire (about 10pm). Followed by a hot meal. Modern cars have their own class, as do 'vintage' cars of course.
It's a scatter rally (treasure hunt), using ordnance survey maps to navigate and ultimately to solve clues. This (uniquely), involves some orienteering on foot. So good torches are essential. It's wise to get familiar with navigating skills - Google 'VSCC Finding Your Way', for some excellent guidance. Note that you can chose which clues you hunt down, so if you decide to skip the orienteering sections, a familiarity with Ordnance Survey maps will probably be enough.
This is my favourite event of the year, and there is some sad news to finish with.
This was a thriving event, until the Covid years. It has been difficult to get it going since. Richard Scott and James Campbell organised last year's excellent event, and agreed to continue into 2024. It was with great sadness, that we heard of the sudden passing of James, but Richard was keen to continue with the event, in James Campbell's memory.
It is possible that this will be the last Nightjar. It has been running since 1976. Come and give it a go - hopefully it will be one of those beautiful clear November evenings - the perfect weather for driving around in your Austin 7.
Let's make this a great event.
All the best,
Colin
Should add - I will post on here, when entry forms become available.
