White finger?
#21
In open top cars I tend to wear earplugs as I too suffer from tinitus. It started in my motorcycling days and if I can I avoid too much loud and high frequency noise. I went to an audiologist who took moulds in wax and made custom fitted plugs for each ear ( in different colours port and starboard). I strongly recommend them to all but most wait until it’s too late of course. I wish I’d done it years before I needed to …

Raynaud’s disease?

If I use the Ulster with an original Bluemels sprung wheel I can drive very long distances with no hand fatigue at all.
With the RN on a 200 mile trip at the end of the day my fingers feel tingly. This wears off after a couple of pints of beer.
On both cars the drag link is up to its work and I suspect some of the tingling sensation is transmitted from the road and yes the wheel is held lightly.

My problem is ringing in my ears after a long run in the saloon!

You might have a point there Malcolm, likewise I guide the wheel with fingertips most of the time, and merely suggest the preferred direction.

I'm glad you mentioned hearing, I've suffered from mild tinnitus for a good many years now and while deep down I know it was a youth mis-spent in noisy concerts and bars, I've often wondered if cruising the Ulster mile after mile with no hood, screen or headwear may have played a part.

I remember watching a video of Damon Hill driving a high performance Mercedes Benz around the Nurburgring track at some suicidal speeds, lightly touching the steering wheel just with his finger tips.
