This is the actual 1925 car as entered by Gordon England
At the 1925 Le Mans 24 Hour race. So probably
Photographed near the course as the car is race ready by the looks of it!

I wonder if the Club L’Ouest? At Le Mans has an archive that might have photos?

What was the windscreen arrangement, if any,  in the race? As shown would be worth 5-10 mph but surely would not run at any speed hinged forward!
If  conditions were like today, the drawer would be handy for speeding tickets.
The Yank in background sufficently impressive to interest the passer by.

Thanks for this Austin, sadly no mascot!
Some racing cars had wire gauze in the windscreens
rather than glass. That top frame looks very lightweight.

I’ve seen a model of this car and it has a spare wheel
Recessed in the tail but with no cover.

Yet to find a photo of the rear of this car ....

Gordon England must have made quite a few one off cars before
The production runs of Cups, Brooklands Supersports, Vans and latterly Saloons and Stadiums.

Yes, built by GE
I would say that the Brooklands is the result of the success of the 1923 200 mile race car.
I'm not sure which chassis was used for the car ECGE is sitting in at Montlhery so can't quite answer part 2.

Edited to add; there is a suggestion that this is one of the first batch of five cars of the Brooklands type, retained by GE and rebodied for the 1924 JCC 200. So, since the later Brooklands supersports were of somewhat heavier construction than the first batch I suppose you might describe it as derived from a pre production Brooklands. Assuming that what I have read is correct!

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the info on this car. I’m intrigued
by the state of the alloy panelling on this car,
It’s pretty rough so it was either knocked up
quickly or it had suffered an accident while racing?

Anyone know if it raced again ?
