Do you remember Potterspury Festivals of Transport 1981-1985?
#1
In the 1980s our village, Potterspury, ran weekend transport festivals that became quite successful for a time. Unfortunately in 1985 the venue was moved to the Milton Keynes Bowl and they were not repeated. The problem with 1985 was that Live Aid just happened to select the same dates for their global media events and the public stayed away - glued to their TVs instead.

My only involvement with classic cars at the time was to help a friend attend with a 1947 MG Y saloon. I had given up my Seven Special in the late 60s. However, I did act as a steward at the Potterspury festivals.

Recently browsing our village memorabilia I found a few photos of Sevens displayed at the Potterspury festivals. I wonder if any A7 Friends Forum readers attended?

The usual festival site site was at Wakefield Lodge just off Watling Street (A5) between Stony Stratford and Towcester. Lots of car and commercial vehicle clubs attended and there was a full programme of events to entertain the public. Do you recognise anyone (or their vehicle) in the photos?  Perhaps you just recall attending the festival. At the last event in 1985 (Milton Keynes) it appears that over 12 Sevens were registered to attended.

To help jog your memory, you might remember the 1983 event when "The Elastic Man", a bungee jumper from Cambridge University Dangerous Sports Club, hit the ground and was rushed unconscious to Northampton hospital - he did recover, eventually. As a steward in the display ring I will never forget it and the newspaper headlines that followed!
