A tour of historic motor sport sites in Shropshire will take place on Saturday 1st October. It will start in Ludlow, and take in nine venues before reaching Bridgnorth Station, where hopefully steam operation will have resumed, if it ever starts raining again. In 1909 Herbert Austin put his 18/24hp car up Harley Bank, and Arthur Waite managed FTD with the 20 up Angel Bank in 1922. Shropshire is threaded by historic and current trials hills and sections. This tour will not venture off road, but will still visit Lime Kilns, Farlow and Yeld. Recceing has been done with a Ruby, so anyone with a better power to weight ratio will have no serious problems of ascent. Printing costs have rocketed, so entry has had to increase to £35. There are still places, so don't hesitate to quickly check your diary, and then contact me; stevekaytwo@btinternet.com.

The Midlands Section of MGCC organised trials in Shropshire in the late 30s, CAN Mays had to admit that Grasshoppers were very successful. The picture is Alf Langley on his way to taking the Bryant Cup in February 1938. There are a number of images of lesser machines on this hairpin, and comparison indicates that Langley is cornering with considerable brio. This is a sharp right hander, and he is doing a fine GN imitation, clipping the apex and sliding the back end out.
