Firstly thank you for the replies to my question on the chummy tank innards!
Please can anyone tell me if the hinge on a 28 chummy was originally painted or polished stainless as per a Nippy. 
The hinge appears to be a similar construction to the Nippy 
thanks in advance.

under the paint, mine seems to be nickel plated like the radiator cowl.

On my Chummy and on the Top Hat, the hinge sections are made from solid nickel or possibly German Silver, no plating or stainless. I believe they were polished in the day.
