Tractors in Ripon.

This Saturday, 25th September, there will be a display of old tractors, so I’m going to go and have a look, going in the Austin seven of course.

This will be at Tate’s Garden Centre, on the right, about half a mile out of Ripon towards Pateley Bridge on the B6265.

The display is 9am till 4pm, so I was thinking of going around 11am. Might a few more sevens turn up?

There used to be a guy lived not far from here who had a house in the garrigue near Mont Bouquet. He had a collection of over 90 tractors all of which were restored and in working order, all parked up alongside the road in his garden. He was known to all and sundry as Jacky le Tracteur. I once called to see him in the Austin and he knew all about the A7 tractors. His pride and joy was an early Porsche single cylinder two stroke, and he would always fire it up to show it off. It was like starting a prop aircraft, but using a huge external flywheel.

Sadly the collection has disappeared, along with Jacky.

Tractor pornistas would have loved him.

I also love a bit of Tractor Porn in the evening...(so snapped this while out for a walk just now).

These live on a farm near to home and on many a winter's afternoon the good old boys get in there, fire up the forge, make the tea, and chew the fat together. Lovely.
