Austin Military Brochure
#1
This brochure was mentioned a while back when it came up on Ebay. I am delighted to be able to tell you that, today, the owner, Adli Halabi (who some of you will remember as the Association Registrar in the early days) has donated the Brochure to the Archive. I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am in that we have been able to add this to the collection and cannot thank Adli enough for his incredible generosity.

As a result, some of the funds that I had earmarked for the purchase can now be used to conserve the brochure as some of the linen 'hinge pieces' of each page have suffered what looks like insect damage. I can also get each page interleaved with archive quality tissue paper to protect each photo and get a box constructed to store it in to save any further deterioration.

Thank you , Adli, for this most remarkable donation of something that is almost certainly unique..

I am keen to organise an open day at the Archive in the coming months and, hopefully, the conservation work will be completed by then and the brochure can go on display..

Yes, my thanks also to Adli... and to our Archivist, Hugh, for pursuing this item so ably.

I had the privilege of seeing this at first hand last week and it's a brilliant addition to the archive. Bravo for donating it Adli.

Is this the same book on Austin 7 Military Vehicles that came up on eBay some time back - I think it was mentioned on the Forum at the time?

If not there are more than one of these books out there.

Yes Tony, it is the same one. I doubt there is another.

I'm happy to report that I have just received the Military Album back from Conservation. I am using the Archives and Conservation Dept of Cambridgeshire County Council.

Luana Franceschet has done a lovely job, including making a bespoke box in which to store the album. The main thrust of her work was to repair/replace the linen 'hinge pieces' of each affected page and to add a specialised sheet of tissue paper to protect each photo from deterioration by contact with the other pages in the album.
