complete list of bolts & lengths for a chassis rebuild
#1
Hi all

This might sound totally bizarre, but has anyone done a list (or does one exist somewhere anyway) of all nuts and bolts associated with a chassis rebuild?

I want to replace all nuts and bolts/set screws and Namrick in Brighton are my nearest stockist.

So a list of sizes and lengths and the appropriate useage would be most helpful.

I'm used solely to metric nuts and bolts in the main, and getting into BSF stuff and getting my brain around it all is taxing me a little!

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Have you got the Parts List? IIRC this give all parts on individual large assemblies per page. I can't put my hands on my copy, haven't seen it for ages, I hope it didn't go with the Benjaustin when I sold it...

Hi Duncan

I have List of Spare Parts for Low Frame Chassis.

What I'm really after though is a kind of one stop check list type of thing, such that I can phone Namrick and just order all new bolts in one go, also it would be good for reference. I just wondered if someone had done such a thing?

What exactly do you mean when you say chassis please Arthur?

If you mean a full rolling chassis there are actually very few standard fastenings.

What year is your car?

I dont know of any list.

If you are used to metric, perhaps the easiest start to Imperial. Is to convert 6mm to 1/4.  8mm to 5/16 etc etc.

You will find today many of the different shoulder lengths on imperial bolts are no longer available.

My best suggestion is for £50 you can get alot of nuts and bolts at a fasteners.

Be polite at the counter, ask for a mix of sizes. Take anything going cheap they want rid of.

If you dknt use it today, you will find it very valuable in the future. When nobody stocks it anymore.

Tony.

Yes thanks all.

Its a 1937 Ruby chassis. Trouble is, I dismantled it all 3 years ago, probably (and rather stupidly) binned some of the bolts thinking, I'll replace them all in due course. I've picked it all up again now and am anxious to get it built up. Actually found someone on ebay doing 300 nuts/bolts/washers etc for Austin Sevens for around £39, so might indulge.

My idea was to find a list (saw that one that someone sent a link for) that included lengths and pitch etc and thought it might be useful for future nutters like me who've spent the last 25 years all metric.

Made a blunder yesterday by trying to get a UNF bolt into a BSF thread! Just ordered an imperial thread gauge, so I'll get there! Fortunately my blacksmith chum has plenty of taps/dies.

If you dismantled it fully, you will have drilled out quite a lot of rivets, which will need replacing, either with rivets again or HT bolts.
