Hi I have a 29 chummy and I would like to make a reverse gear catch like it would have had on the gear lever. Could anyone help me with some pictures and/or maybe some instructions/suggestions.

Hi,

This is not on an A7 but as your question is quite open here's what I made for the same purpose on my Sandford's gearbox.

The reverse is left/front and the first rear/front so I was really afraid to break the gearbox if I missed the 1st to second.

Here you go. Made from German Silver about 3/64" thick I think. 1 1/2 inches across at the widest part, 1 3/4 inches from below the rivet to the top.

Worth keeping an eye on eBay, sometimes chopped gear sticks come up or even a reverse catch.

The guide housing often remains, rivetted to the gearstick. There is a small coil spring inside to pre-load the catch. 

I've reproduced the brass piece from a piece of (I think) 1/4" brass plate with a file, doesn't take long even with a few duff attempts first.

If they needed a reverse catch on the early 3 speed boxes why was it deleted on the later ones?
