Radiator Repairs
#1
Our local radiator man has told me this morning that he's finally done what he's been threatening to do for a few years now and retired. Quite a blow when it's someone I've dealt with for nearly 50 years but it's the right thing for him.

So, any recommendations for where to go now ideally northern based? At the moment I'm looking for somebody to carry out some small solder repairs to the top tank to a 1930 Saloon radiator.

Not particularly close to you, but based on a recommendation from a member on here, and my subsequent experience as a customer, I can certainly recommend these people for rad repairs https://www.pandmradiators.co.uk/repairs.html

Steve,
I've always found Steve, who's taken over from Jess, at CPA Radiators in Grantham very obliging, knowledgeable and competent. He really knows his stuff.

Another in the north Midlands is Mansfield Radiators; I have had good service from them on a number of occasions:

I've not been there for some time, so he may well have gone by now, But Wrexham Radiators have always done my work. Always give you options and good value.

Done some very unusual stuff for me too.

Hey Steve

I had Tony do a repair on my Crossley Rad just recently and he gave me the stunning news. His service will be missed.
Like you I have used him for about 50 years.
I am glad for him and hope that he really does find the time for his own cars.
If you find someone good would you be kind enough to share with me.

Wrexham Radiators are still going. They sorted my petrol tank out for me about 18 months ago.

Hi Steve

Again far too far away for you but it might help others more local..

Hereford Radiators did a good job on my special rad. They also do fuel tanks I believe.

Cheers

Maybe something that will not help Steve directly, but this does seem to be a 'gathering point' for references to radiator repair services. Gerry Marshall at Anglia Radiators in Cambridge will always do an excellent job, but he can be on the pricey side..

Thanks very much chaps. My problem (and Nick will confirm it's his as well) is that we've been used to jumping in the car and taking our radiator issues to our local man whenever required. For me, that's a 20 minute journey. He's an absolute magician when it comes to radiators. You've never seen him advertise but he did work for all sorts of well known people from all over the country - including a chap who's regular on here from Scotland! We never asked for a price. Just left the radiator with him and in due course you'd get a phone call to say it was ready. Back in the car and go and collect. Price was always right. The first radiator he did for me was when he had his business in Wakefield. That was for my Mk1 Escort in about 1972. He sold that business and 'retired' about 25 - 30 years ago and since then he's concentrated on old car work from the domestic garage at the back of his bungalow. Some of the work that's come out of there for rare and exotic veteran and vintage cars is truly amazing. The last radiator he did for me (actually for someone I knew) was for an original Ulster about 12 months ago. It's all been very convenient and to now have to find someone new that might involve parcelling a radiator up and sending it off is rather difficult to conceive.

However, unless someone local can be found, sadly, that might be what has to happen.
