semi-Girling drums on closed center wheels
#1
Hi All,

My Ulster Rep has closed center wheels and semi-Girling drums. When the car was built, it had open center wheels on 17 inch rims. The owner had a set of closed center wheels built with 19 inch rims. However, he couldn't fit them due to a clearance issue.  When I bought the car, Steve Hodgson was able to fit the closed center wheels. It turns out that the rears are quite a way out of round. I've found a set of new semi-Girling drums in OZ, but I am told that they won't fit the closed center wheels. Any help is appreciated.

The outside diameter of the new drums need to be reduced until the solid centre wheels fits over them.

So, Ruairidh, a light turn in a lathe will address this, I assume?

In addition to a light external drum skim I elected to grind off the thick powder coating on the wheel hub.

Patience and heavy duty sandpaper may negate the necessity to acquire a lathe.
