top hat glass
#1
when I first acquired my top hat all of the glass had gone missing so I replaced it with toughened in the rear and sides, laminated in the front screen.I have since learned that when new the car could have been made with plate glass, laminated safety glass was an optional extra at a huge price of £22-15 shillings quite an extra on the £165 ex works price.I wonder how many customers took up the offer and are there any cars running around unaware of what type of glass may still be in their cars regards to all Rob,

Interesting. My '26 Top Hat had the front door windows in original triplex but the screen was 1/4" plate glass. The rear side windows and rear window had been replaced during the 1980's bodge up "cosmetic" restoration with 3mm domestic window glass!!

I believe safety glass became a retrospective requirement in the UK in the early 1930's, 1931 rings a bell??
