Slightly confused regarding the fitting of an isolator switch to my special.
Initially I was planning to fit a Lucas unit to the dash next to the starter button, breaking the + positive circuit (6v neg earth system).
However the instructions state fitting to the earth circuit, the battery is fitted underslung passenger floor some way from the dash.
Question is, would I then have to run the negative earth cable from the battery to the isolator and then to earth ?
A friend with a Seven has suggested fitting to positive circuit on dash prior to push start button, any thoughts.
Why on the dash - Ideally, the switch wants to be as close to the battery as possible - If fitted to the dash you leave the possibility of the cable chaffing between battery / dash and causing a fire. On my saloon, I fitted the switch on the negative earth cable and mounted the switch on the crossmember that supports the rear of the passenger seat. Are you running the starter cable to the dash ? That must be a pretty long run especially if using 6 volts.
