Ruby Trafficator Switch - How Does it Cancel?

Thank you for the suggestions, comments and link to the Cornwall site. What I could not work out was how the u-shaped bracket in the wheel cancelled the signal. Having looked carefully at the photographs, it seems that someone had, at some point, dismantled the mechanism and reassembled it back to front. I imagine that it was when the operating arm and knob were removed and the wires taped up.

I have now dismantled it all, cleaned and lubricated it and reassembled the device. Although not in the car yet, it does now cancel if I move the arms, which it did not do when I started.
