ignition light
#1
Hi everybody
I am new to this site as I have just.bought a 1936 Austin seven Ruby.
I have a problem I think. On high revs I get a charge of between 0 and 10 amps but the ignition light is still on. I have cleaned the dynamo and fitted 3 new brushes

If it is stock system the charge rate at moderate and above revs should be reasonably constant but different for the two positons of the Summer/Winter switch.
If a non standard sytem anyones guess.

If always that way, the lamp may be wired in wrong. John Cornforths circuit daigram is an essential possession. (Dorset site)

Poor cutout contact will cause the lamp to light but erratic if the charge is. May also explain that.
The contacts are silver and can be dressed slightly with a clean finger nail file. With battery disconnected.
Hopefully will still have enough travel to make full contact.

Do not prod contacts with the battery connected or will lock closed. Must then immediately separate.

If working on dyn do not increase charge beyond 8-10 amps.

Many thanks I will try the contacts.
I moved the small brush from winter to summer settings
and amps go up and down so that seems ok
