Advance/Retard Lever Springs
#1
I'm looking to source a pair (or, maybe, 2 pairs if I could find them) of the springs that fit in the advance /retard levers. I have the hollow grub screws and can easily make the pegs with the V notch but I can't find any springs. As I measure them they seem to be 18 swg wire compression springs, 3/16" o/d and 1/2" long. Anybody got a source?

Hi Steve

Tony Griffiths had sets of these made a little while back. He should know of a spring supplier.

Cheers

Spring masters of Redditch made me a batch of 70psi oil pressure relief valve springs a while ago. I remember they were helpful and not expensive.

Yes, Tony had the whole sets made.
I fixed mine by destroying a few free ball point pens until I found the best pair.

Hello Steve,

I have the correct springs available (it did take some experimentation to get the right ones)

If you want just the springs, rather than the whole lot below, give me a call on 01298-871633.

GAS and IGNITION LEVER INTERNAL PARTS See: http://www.lathes.co.uk/austin-7-lever-parts
The bare cost to me works out at £8 - this is a no-profit exercise; The machinist fits the job in between others to keep the cost down.
The three parts are: the pusher rod with V-end, the tension screw, and the spring. These will be described as "Internal parts, one set to fit one 'gas' or one 'Ignition lever'.
Post and packing is £1.75 for up to six sets.
I need to separate this from my usual business, so here's how to pay:
Cheques to: Mrs A.Griffiths
Direct bank payment to:
Mrs A Griffiths
NatWest   Account 47407492   Sort Code: 60 01 33
Send a letter with your cheque, or bank transfer details, and your address to

Note: it's often the case that the central disc is so worn across the central part of both the left and right-hand sectors that, even with the spring coil-bound, there is insufficient tension to get a grip. A tiny distance piece can sometimes work... though finally the casting might need replacing (one of mine does).

Many thanks, Tony. Exactly what I'm looking for. I've called this evening but you're, obviously, out. I'll try again tomorrow.
