Centenary

I would loved to attend Crufts and trot my Austin Seven called Rover around the ring , but sadly each year they reject my application!

how on earth can you decide in your mind that a dog weeing where they have been doing for tens of thousands of years as nature intended, is doing untold harm , but that no harm at all will come to acres of grass wild flowers and insects being drizzled on by a thousand old motor cars all happily dropping oil , petrol untold amounts of exhaust particles with all the micro crap involved there . I am not so sure that our dog bashing friends will be ready to stop old car gatherings just because they piss on the grass Regards to all Rob .

Not allowing dogs at Morton is not something our organisers have dreamed up. It is a specific condition imposed by the Fire Station College. As well as training fire people they also train dogs for the fire service and other services. These are very specialised dogs and the training they go through is equally specialised. The College confirm the presence of 'general' dogs on the site risks adversly affecting that specialised training and so they have a 'no dogs' rule for anyone wanting to hire their venue. No doubt some will say that's ridiculous. However, those same people don't do what the staff at the College do. Sometimes you simply have to take the word of the experts and, in this case, we're talking about some of the best trainers of specialised dogs on the planet. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I quite see the point of a no dog rule where they specialise in training dogs , but surely its not the place for a thousand + old cars to be for days on end leaving a very large amount of stink and smells in the ground that will last for months on end and dare I say maybe years , humans would not pick up the scent the next day but a dog being trained will take one sniff of those fields long after we have gone and to use a term commonly used where I live " it wont know its arse from its elbow " Roll on Beaulieu Regards Rob.

Barry you might say that you have enough control over your dog the prevent it from soiling the grounds or lifting its leg over someone's pride and joy but unfortunately not all owners are that responsible or have well behaved dogs. I am in full support of the organiser's making a no dog rule and don't understand why you feel the need to air this on the forum, just leave your dog at home or with a family member.
PS I am a dog owner not a dog hater.

i dont think the dog arguement needs thrashing threw again, its been dont.

like it or not, its there venue, there rules. being a dog owner i have to abide by it.

although reading ians rant, some people may have a simular arguement over kids, they are more likely to do more damage. but i take it will be allowed in.

The dog objection has been discussed at length in prevoius threads. Why the need to resurrect?
I feel for the organisers whom form all accounts and looking at the programme have done a sterling job. I take my hat off to them. In many ways a thankless task that this sort of thread bumping (if thats the correct terminology!) illustrates only too well.

For all the knit picking that some seem to feel the need to express I'm sure the event will still somehow manage to be an overwhelming sucess.
Good luck to all.

Was it a rant Tony? I was simply pointing out that I don't see why we are having this conversation again and that dog owners (my self included) need to understand that there are restrictions on what we can do with our animals and to not get bent out of shape when told that we cant!

Perhaps I can have the last word on this overtaxed subject.

Firstly      I was not aware that it had been discussed before simply because I have been 'off air' for a longish period with a multitude of PC problems.

Secondly I was due to man the gate at the event to assist the organisers and was totally unaware of the no dog rule which I actually fully understand and respect.
I was regularly in contact with Peter Lawson and we were working out the details of how the event main gate would be manned and all seemed OK
It was only when I read the 'small print' I became aware that dogs were not permitted and I'm not sure who was the most disappointed, Peter or I, but it is what it is

Thirdly    As both my dogs are both rescues and very very nervous we can't leave them with anyone, having made the commitment to care for them we stick by it even if it costs us.

Fourthly  I have always wished the Centenary the success it deserves after the Herculean efforts of all the organising committee and I am genuinely disappointed at not being able to attend                hence my enthusiasm for Beaulieu and indeed the other shows I will hopefully be attending through this year.

Sincere apologies if my initial post has been misconstrued, that was never my intention.

On a brighter note my RN hit the road yesterday for the first time after some winter fettling and performed flawlessly much to my surprise and quickly reminded me why we are so passionate about these wonderful cars.
Buy an Austin 7 they said, It's easy to work on they said !

Fair play Barry. A lot has been said about the event and as someone who is also not attending the centenary event I wish it well but I’m looking forward to going to the other A7 rally’s and events throughout the year. Work commitments and only having 20 days own choice annual leave I have to make it last the year and not sure my family would appreciate me spending a full week away at an event. It suits some people
Better than others. Like I say I wish it all the best but happy to support the other rally’s during the year. I have even entered the VAR Austin 12 centenary gathering at stonehurst farm with the light 12.

well sed joe,

if people want something more central, and hopefully im not letting anything out early here (well ive had 3 people tell me about it so far).

but aparently the austin 7 woolaton event is being held at stonehurst this year?

its a lovely venue, as you know.

not quite beaulieu, but it does have an on site motor museum.

anyone looking to do more than one day, there are plenty of local eating houses, and about 10 pubs in a 2 mile radius. the great central railway is only a couple of miles down the road, if you want a day on the steam engines. also very good small road drive areas, around swithland and the lakes.

it doesnt matter were you enjoy 100 years of sevening, but if you want one in the middle of the country. there you go.
