wanted to try and buy some 5/16 for making up puller but can't find anyone on ebay, which os mostly 4.8 grade.
Anyone have a good source of HT rod and nuts?
I'm not sure the difference between HT and stainless. i.e. one stronger than the other. someone suggested I need 8.8 grade.

Hi Jon

Be careful with stainless I believe lots of stainless nuts and bolts are quite weak. I found that stainless wood screws are very brittle.  I think you need A2 to get high yield but I’m sure others will advise.

Stainless steel threads pick up easily (as in Seize) you def don't want SS for a puller

Chris - was using some old studs for attempting to move a kingpin. And of course the threads gave way gradually over a few tries with different pre-used studs.
Someone else said about snapping dedicated tools, so HT threaded rod was suggested as giving best chance. And easy to make up if you can find the stuff!
As Ruairidh has also added, some will NEVER come out with a puller though i.e. need for drifting with the small opening from underneath (present on all pre-girling except the taper bearing stubs... after the oilite cam bearings are removed).

Ive had more luck leathering stuck kingpins out from underneath. Remove backplate and brake bush first
