The listing at the back of Wyatt gives 249701 for the first ARR Ruby.
Have you found an early one?

No mine is an early Ruby but registered 1st July 1936, I am given to understand the ARR was introduced in August of that year and was interested to know how close to the end of the ARQ’s it was.
My chassis number is 247862 so if Wyatt is correct there were still quite a few after mine. Cheers

The same number is given in the Companion - so it is probably correct.
This suggests that there were about 1800 ARQ's after yours. But if Austin were completing about 16,000 a year at that time - 300 a week - the difference is only about six week's production?

I have 249701 as being the first car to have the same number for the chassis and Car Number, quoted as being ARR249701; I have always assumed this signified the first ARR New Ruby, but I can't find any documentation which actually confirms that.

Looking in the Wyatt chassis information for 8th July 1936 it says:
"1st 1937 Saloon (R.R.3) with Girling brakes, larger wheel centres, etc. Chassis an car numbers combined from: Chassis No. 249701." I wonder where this information original came from? The handbooks and parts lists don't appear to give specific model information. The Parts List 1406A says it is for the ARQ model. 1406B, which was a reissue from Chassis No 249701, doesn't give the model.

I'm afraid I don;t have time to have a close look at the information held on these, as I embedded in domestic work at the moment. However, accurate chassis numbers are shown reflecting the change over from one model to another on the cards. I wouldn;t be at all surprised if somewhere on these, the chassis number for the first ARR is recorded...
