Aston Hill Climb Centenary Celebration
#1
Yesterday was an event to commemorate 100 years since the hill climb at Aston Clinton was last used. Lionel Martin, founder of Aston Martin, was a competitor there in the 1920s and named his cars after the venue. W.O. Bentley made his competition debut on the hill, as did Raymond Mays. Other famous names came and competed there including, S.F. Edge, Dorothy Levitt, Victor Riley, H.F.S. Morgan, and many more.

An extraordinary gathering of vehicles was assembled and the amount of history on view was utterly breathtaking. As with our own Centenary event, this was a one-off, and it is highly unlikely that the beautiful vehicles will ever be together again. Several of the cars competed on the climb in-period.

I was fortunate to be asked to photograph the event and I think many Friends may be interested to see this album of 100 images - a sort of 'best' selection of the pics.

I'm also pleased to report that among the exotica I was able to find a number of proper motor cars...

What a lovely event. Excellent photos Nick, I particularly like the youngsters in overalls and flat caps.

Hi Nick,

Loved looking through the photos. Thanks for sharing them.
Not sure the family appreciated what I was giving up, when I put family before Aston last Saturday.

All the best,
Colin
