After seeing how cheaply a Speedex 750 sold in a similar auction, I was sorely tempted to bid on this little treasure... and with a hammer price of £13k, I don't think the new owner did too bad.

Restored a whike ago, last run in 2011 and needing recommissioning.

No Brass Carburettor?

I actually have a rare brass carb that is probably suitable for that car. It has the petrol feed into the bottom of the float chamber (as opposed to the side). I could probably be persuaded to part with it for a reasonable price....

Yes, what a shame on such an early car, especially when a bronze carb can be found very easily.

Also should it not have a bacon slicer? Vertical loops on fuel lines should be avoided because of possible airlocking.

I don't think bottom entry ones like this are all that common, are they?

Yes, a good few things 'wrong' on that car, but nothing that would be very costly or difficult to fix.

A good friend of mine has just rung me to say that he has bought this car. He is an excellent person to own it, a young enthusiast who already has 2 A7s (among other cars) and works for a vintage restoration company. His workmanship and attention to detail are superb, and he used to help the previous owner (an old family friend) to look after it.

He would be keen to get the car back to being as correct as possible. Ray, please could you e-mail me (david@a7c.co.uk) so that I can put you in touch with him?

No Ray. A few years ago, when Barry Clarke put together the early 2 seat Sports recently offered for sale he tried very hard to find one. I'm not sure that he ever succeded.
