Low-number owner claims are always suspicious with our cars; if the original owner of the Nippy was seventeen in 1934 then he would be 108 now! Far more likely is one recorded owner since the DVLA records were digitalised - even that would be impressive.

The Nippy rings a bell - maybe. HE reg is Barnsley, South Yorkshire and at the back of my mind I'm sure I remember a Barnsley registered Nippy still in Barnsley maybe 30 years or so ago. Can't remember much about it or the owner though. Maybe a coincidence.

This is an obvious gap and will be well received I have no doubt. Is the intent to have an up to date chassis registry within it, or is that a minefield too far?

Hampson's auction now underway - you can watch it live online!

£21,000 - which might be about right for a replica that will need £3000+ in parts, plating, lights, etc to make it appear more original.

Was £21,000 the hammer price or inclusive of fees, Tony? If the former, that's a very good price and I hope the purchaser is properly aware of what he/she's bought.

Plus another £3000 or so for the buyers premium and VAT.
Knocking on the door of £30k all in to end up with a half decent replica I reckon. Just the atrocious rear number plate and the dodgy registration would have been enough to keep me well away. The Nippy, on the other hand, looked a bargain at £7,000 (plus premium)

Probably about the right money with the mechanical specification. As others have said, some £ spent in making it look better/more authentic will still see it at the about the right level.
Nippy looked a bargain. |
