In all honesty I think Corsica or Sardinia a better bet than North Africa! And I hear they are lovely. Ferries from Nice too I believe.

I'm not so sure about Geneva or Annecy, but I remember vividly the catastrophe of hitting Lake Constance at the wrong time of day. You then realise that the route options are of course substantially limited by the presence of the lake, and consequently sit in a queue of traffic for ever. Just something to keep in mind.

Slovenia is a lovely, friendly country with some interesting things to visit? And no further than Santiago I reckon.
