Extraordinary coincidence. Thanks Lance, that is a lovely postscript. I am only half way through the book but I have read enough to know that you had to be ultra brave to fly Typhoons and Tempests given that a) you would most likely die if you had to ditch because the thing would not skim the water as other planes might, and b) that both aircraft had a habit of shedding their tails in a dive.
