Cheap wheel rebuild - WARNING!!
#1
I have had the regrettable experience of being suckered through eBay I wish to warn other would be buyers.

The following link is to the seller;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-36-SPOKES-CLASSIC-CAR-WHEEL-RIM-AUSTIN-A7-10-12-16-20-AUD-/282628032563?hash=item41cdf18833

Having bought the advertised A7 wheel for $290 Aust as per the attached link upon receipt it looked the business, I thought I was on a winner.

I had the wheel powder coated black and then a new tyre fitted. It was at this point when it was attempted to fit the wheel to the car I discovered the pitfalls of the purchase simply I had bought a lemon.  The old expression of if it is too good to be true then it most likely is, come flooding in with vengeance.

• The first fault is the hub center is 31tho to small in diameter and will not fit the diameter of the mounting hub being 3”diameter.

• The laced indexing of the spokes was incorrect with the spokes crossing over in front of the mounting stud. This fault will not allow a socket to be used to tighten the nuts.

• While an easy fix the hole for the valve spigot is too small.

• The last being there is six hole witness centers drilled that must have been wrong and these were disguised with a filler.

I have included photos in a hope these may make the preceding clearer, The telescopic gauge was set from an original wheel hub

Regards,

Doug Baker
