Axle tubes

The front stubs on my Ulster were, originally, pre-Semi Girling like your rears, Howard, with the 3/16" flange thickness and were cut down to take hydraulic backplates, probably in the early 1960's. However I don't think they were ever used. When I aquired them around 2010 those backplates and some hydraulic bits were still attached and, as I had no intention of going hydraulic, I sold them for exceptional money, via ebay, to a chap in Germany.

I then looked at fitting Semi-Girling backplates and, with minimal modification, they went on and have been there ever since covering many road miles and over 100 speed events. You can see one of the cut down stubs (hydraulics removed) on the left of the photo below taken when I got them.
