Richard Wyatt - I am in similar position but lost my right leg, then being made to wait a year to have the left knee replaced so slowing down recovery time when I could be much further ahead using an interim tin leg. I have further held myself up by trying to be good and practice using crutches 3 months after knee op only to fall over on 1st May and brake my Femur between my old hip replacement and new knee!!!! so back several months in recovery process with left leg muscles just now coming back into working to allow the leg to begin to take a little weight. The total rebuild of Nippy going back together is obviously on hold.
My licence was handed in as required. A driving assessment is required before licence can be re-instated, especially for hand controls. The NHS will do a referral for a free assessment at one of the named places (Bodmin in my case) otherwise if you do your own assessment application you pay a fee.
I will be looking at fitting the rod control which gets clamped to steering column operating the pedals via Bowden cables, push forward to accelerate and pull back to brake. I am hoping my conversion will be a bit easier with my having the BMC "A" engine with hydraulic brakes and clutch and using a Mini pedal box (No holes in the floor letting in foot freezing draughts).
PDavies - what are the control(s) controlling? Photos would show good information. (would love to come and see but am in Torridge area Devon just inland from Bude and not driving!!).
Is this now a time for the club to have an added section....."the legal legless drivers"
Look on the good side....only one sock to wash at a time
