The man who builds cars... - Ruairidh Dunford - 28-02-2019 Lovely short film about the hugely talented David Hayward ( a close relation of a well known Forum contributor)... More information on the models he makes can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/David-Hayward-Models-823691427666269/ RE: The man who builds cars... - Chris KC - 28-02-2019 Lovely film! Regards Bill G RE: The man who builds cars... - Erich - 28-02-2019 Well done to both David and the filmmakers. Erich in Seattle RE: The man who builds cars... - Timothy P - 28-02-2019 Completely agree, what a great little film. RE: The man who builds cars... - Steve Bryant - 04-03-2019 I'm curious as to what the small model aero engine does on the radiator. Wind powered or an actual running engine? Cheers, Stephen RE: The man who builds cars... - JonE - 04-03-2019 it's worth watching them on the vimeo feed - even better quality and there are some other nice films there (911 etc) - wonder what the relationship to film-maker is too? Wind powered or an actual running engine? David writes: "It is basically an old model aero engine, adapted with a small ball race set into the wooden prop, nutted up tight onto the crankshaft spindle allowing it to spin very freely in the wind as one pootles along. The engine is then held on to the rad surround with a wing nut and ali bracket, making removal easy for access to the bonnet...it is based on an old ad that I saw from a 40's magazine - sold as a device to keep the flies out of ones' teeth...!!..mmmmm." RE: The man who builds cars... - Marcus Ling - 04-03-2019 I'm certain I have seen a photo of a Seven racer at Brooklands in the 1920s fitted with a Rotherham air pump which presumably was used to pressurise the fuel tank. These were commonly used on aircraft of the First World War for that purpose. Here is a photo of one. Pump_3_w.jpg (Size: 9.84 KB / Downloads: 153) |
