in my experience, any non fibrous gasket should be fitted dry. eg silicone or rubber type gaskets. They need to grip the surfaces which prevents the gasket distortion.

My big tip to go along with the brake cleaner, which I use a lot, it to blow it off with an airline. Dries it instantly with no contamination.
