RE: matthewsons - jansens - 07-03-2021 Chris Harris likes his 2CV. Simon RE: matthewsons - Austin in the Shed - 07-03-2021 Wasn't the R4 the 3rd best selling car of all time behind the Beetle and Model T ? RE: matthewsons - Duncan Grimmond - 07-03-2021 Re the deviation I recognise the irritation that it may cause but we all love a “people’s car” don’t we? No doubt normal service will resume soon RE: matthewsons - Ruairidh Dunford - 07-03-2021 Who's irritated?? Fantastic thread drift. RE: matthewsons - Nick Lettington - 07-03-2021 Odd that the 2CV body outlives the chassis... unlike the Austin 7. Citroen obviously made the engine a little too oil tight. ![]() ![]() This is waiting for a new galvanised chassis a few miles south of Ruairidh near Castle Douglas. RE: matthewsons - Tony Griffiths - 08-03-2021 As so much of the same applies, Harris could be talking about driving a Seven. RE: matthewsons - robert regan - 08-03-2021 I have just had a look there is a 2cv forum for people who want to have a chat about Citroen 2cv, this mathewsons thread lasted for three pages and four pages about 2cv long may they rumble Rob. RE: matthewsons - Ruairidh Dunford - 08-03-2021 That chassis looks very familiar Nick - the later ones were made of much thinner material and almost all end up like that. The galvanised replacement will be heavier, but much longer lasting. There are several Austin Sevens in and around Castle Douglas, lovely part of the world. RE: matthewsons - Jeff Taylor - 08-03-2021 Re Castle Douglas Austin 7's - Interestingly back in the 1960's on the outskirts of nearby Dumfries was a large filling station possibly Esso that always had unrestored pre-war cars spread around the forecourt all of them for sale - I remember seeing a Ruby or two and bigger Austins for sale at various times. I was under the impression many had been found in the North / South of Ireland and ferried into Stranraer - whether that was true or not, I can't say. RE: matthewsons - Ruairidh Dunford - 08-03-2021 Two photos from that area. Dumfries and Galloway police in 1932... ![]() ...and Portpatrick around about 1935/6. |
