In my own experience temperature gauges mounted on the rad cap are more or less useless on Sevens. Depending on the state of your car it may boil over on hills, if so just pull over and let it cool a bit before topping up slowly. If you stop reasonably promptly it's unlikely to cause much harm. The appearance of clouds of steam from under the bonnet is a far more reliable indicator of distress than any motometer. That said, they make nice ornaments!

p.s. Never make the mistake of confusing water temperature with oil temperature, they are distant cousins at best.
