Late (1938) Ruby bonnet stay
#11
The collection of Handbooks and Parts lists held by the Archive are all on line and can be found at

http://archive.a7ca.org/collections/hand...rts-lists/

Spare Parts lists conventionally have very few body parts illustrated (perhaps radiator surrounds) but there are some Body Parts Lists but these are few and far between. The ony one we hold for Ruby models is dated April 1937 and can be found here

http://archive.a7ca.org/wp-content/uploads/PL_1521.pdf

There are a couple of equivalent publications for the Big 7.

Can I use this post as an appeal for any other Body Parts lists that anyone owns to be loaned for digitisation and publication please. Offers to archivist@a7ca.org Thank you...

These pictures shed some more light on the story?

This is the engine bay of late Ruby Ch No 277588 built around July 1938.  This car has the later bonnet and rod rear brakes etc.  The stay can be seen to be bolted to the battery box lid at two points, front and back.

This second photo shows an even later Ruby - one of the very last, Ch No 290xxx first registered in 1939.  Like the very late bright blue car in the post above, this one also does not have a stay fitted.

If I'd only asked Dave Armstrong first...

Yes, I wish I'd found the auction while it was still live. Not exactly the correct model for me, but enough to give me an idea of what was missing.
Never seen another (before or since), and no idea what the publication number is.

Nick L, Yep, that arrangement is virtually identical to what my Fourteen has, and extrapolating from your pic I suspect my car is also supposed to have an actual structural stay between the unknown purpose holes in the scuttle and the cowl. I would also think the front end of the stay contains captive nuts for the alloy front support bracket.

Tony Betts has the late Ruby ones on his website. Perhaps you could stretch one to fit!
