Dip-Stick Marking
#1
I have a 1931 engine with a dip-stick which is essentially just a length of rod which rests on the bottom of the sump.

How far from the bottom of the did-stick should the line indicating the correct level be?

I just want to make sure I'm not overfilling it and making the oil leak from the rear main worse than it actually is.

John.

The only way to be sure is to drain the oil and put back the recommended amount and then see where it comes to on the stick.

I guess that's the best way.   I was actually hoping someone might either know the depth of oil in the sump or be able to measure their dipstick.

Allowing for very slight overfill, the answer is 1.555"

Brilliant.   That's exactly what I needed.

Many thanks,
John.
