hi .the engine number is between or after a7 and earley big 7.looking at the surviving chassis registar.have you seen eny outhers

Cast steel steering boxes used between October 1931 and September 1933 (according to Wyatt).

The 1A number cast into the case is probably the part number. The engine number is stamped near the oil jets.

this engine number is part of the casting .the plates were fitted into the mould when it was first cast.not stamped after.i have normal 3 bearing engines.

Graham, for checking against other crankcases, could you also please measure the following..
height from base of front foot to block surface
height from base of rear foot to block surface
distance from front foot centre to timing gear face
distance from rear foot centre to timing gear face
