My next adventure
#81
Day 3....

"Just arrived at my hotel in Leon. Weather has been a bit damp. Rain-X does the trick! Pics coming.

Followed the "camino" virtually all the way today. Lots of pilgrims walking. Rather them than me. This stint today had been pretty boring. Very agricultural.

I felt a bit like Forest Gump...
Not sure on the mileage today. Probably about 200. The odometer seems to be on a go slow.

Long day tomorrow...
240 miles according to google maps. Car has gone well. About 1/4 pint of oil. It seems to be bedding in nicely."

Day 4...

"Done it! Mission accomplished. Now back to Santiago for a rest!"

"Car has been treated to an oil change and I've just had a slap up binge at Mrs Miggins' chinese buffet. Early night I reckon. Some more pics from today"

Magnificent effort.
If you are up for an antidote to the plain then I can heartily recommend a detour along the north coast and through the Picos mountains and gorges.
Perfect Austin Seven country.

I'd love to Ian, but I'm on a fixed time schedule so will have to stick to my basic itinerary. If I'm not home on Thursday I shall get "right done" by the management. Tomorrow will reveal itself as we progress and then wednesday its up and ovr the Pyrennees. That should be fun.

Day 5

"Car has only used about 1/4 pint of oil today so I will leave it until tomorrow. Coolant definitely leaking from top hose to rad joint but that can wait too. I've topped it back up but it only took a cupful.

Tomorrow's destination. Maps are giving me a secong option avoiding Burgos and Logrono. Its the same time and mileage so I'll take it for the chance to see some different scenery. Runs a bit further south. Can't be any worse. The leg from Burgos to Leon was quite boring. Looked like the filmed High Plains Drifter there."

Day 6 and 7 (posted late due to the arrival of Stuart U and Robert F - socialising prevented typing)!

Reckers writes:

"Road dead flat, dead straight and dead boring. Car has done over 1500 since rebuild so gave it its head. Flat out the speedo was showing over 60 but according to navvy true speed was 91kph. Not bad though gor something with an aerodynamic profile of a barn door. Just stopped for fuel and a coffee.

Same old, same old. Have climbed four cols after the plains, the one in the photo at 1112m then three others at 1234m, 1162m and 1170m.
Just topped up levels, greased fan spindle and front end. Added 1/2 pint of oil for today's and yesterday's mileage, 740km, or 460 miles.

Day 7. Early start to get up and over the Pyrennees. Just been travelling due east fot the past 3/4 hour straight into the morning sun. Road very rutted due to heavy lorries. Have stopped for a break as its been s battle to keep the car on an even keel.

Through Andorra la Vell and on my way up the col d'envilara. 14km to go. Stopped off in town for a bite and a stretch. On y va!
