I had similar experience with my 125cc BSA Bantam.
At that time I was travelling each day from Cheltenham to Cinderford Technical College. If I used Esso petrol the engine would seize up, and free up after cooling. If I used National Benzole or Cleveland Discol it would run happily all day flat out without any problems.
