I think the problem here is not electronics as modern cars are reliable and they have not had points in years. The problem is quality, for instance I have a fake (probably Chinese) Bosch distributor with points on my 7 it failed when a crimp between the shaft and the thing the bob weights attach to failed, so as has been said already keep your old one at the ready and then you will be unlikely to need it!
